Terms of Service

1. Scope of Agreement

This agreement is entered into between you and the developer of this app (referred to as "we" or "us") regarding your use of the "World of Cultures" mobile application (referred to as "the app"). By downloading, installing, launching or otherwise using the app, you confirm that you have read and agreed to this agreement. If you do not agree, please stop using the app and uninstall it.

2. Services

  1. The app provides dictionary lookup, word book management, study and review, grammar learning, pronunciation (both pre-generated AI audio bundled with the app and AI synthesis performed on your device) and cloud sync (after sign-in), among other features;
  2. Dictionaries, grammar and pronunciation models are built into the installation package, so core features work without an internet connection; account sign-in and cloud sync require network access;
  3. We may update and adjust features, content and interface from time to time to continuously improve the experience.

3. AI-Generated Audio

None of the pronunciation in the app is a recording of a human voice. All of it is produced by artificial-intelligence text-to-speech (TTS) technology, from the following two sources:

(a) Pre-generated audio bundled with the app. Pronunciation for some Chinese single characters, syllables and example sentences was generated in advance, during development, using third-party cloud AI text-to-speech services (including Volcengine Doubao Speech Synthesis and Alibaba Cloud Qwen-Audio TTS), and is distributed inside the installation package. This generation took place entirely at build time and processed only dictionary and grammar text; it involves none of your personal information or voice data, and the app does not call these services while you use it.

(b) On-device synthesis. All remaining text is synthesized locally on your device by built-in offline AI models. This synthesis does not use the network, and neither the audio nor the source text is uploaded to our servers. We do not record or collect your voice.

Synthesized audio may differ from human pronunciation and may contain inaccuracies in pronunciation, intonation or phrasing; it is provided for language-learning reference only. Synthesized audio is not a guarantee of any particular pronunciation standard. If you are unsure about a pronunciation, please refer to an authoritative dictionary or a native speaker. You should not use the synthesized audio in place of professional human voice recording or voice services.

4. Accounts

  1. You may sign up with an email address (including passwordless email links), Google or Apple (for versions other than mainland China), or WeChat (mainland China version). Please keep your account credentials safe;
  2. If you notice any abnormal use of your account, please contact us promptly via the email at the bottom of this page;
  3. You may request account deletion via Settings - Delete Account in the app or by contacting our email address. After deletion, cloud data associated with your account will be handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree that you will not:

  1. reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to obtain the source code of the app in any way;
  2. bulk-scrape, copy or export the dictionaries, grammar, pronunciation and other content built into the app, or use them for redistribution or commercial purposes;
  3. use the app to engage in any activity that violates laws or regulations or infringes on the lawful rights of others.

6. Intellectual Property

  1. The intellectual property rights in the app's software, interface design, icons, and the built-in dictionaries, grammar, pronunciation and other content belong to us or the respective rights holders;
  2. Without written permission, you may not copy, distribute, adapt or license others to use the above content (except for personal study use);
  3. Open-source components and third-party models are used under their respective licences (MIT, Apache-2.0, OpenRAIL-M and others); the full licence texts are available in Settings - About - Open-source licenses.

7. Disclaimer

  1. We will make reasonable efforts to ensure service stability and content quality, but due to factors such as networks and devices, we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free in all circumstances;
  2. The built-in learning content is for language learning reference only and should not be used as professional advice;
  3. For service interruptions caused by force majeure or reasons not attributable to us, we will handle them within the scope of our liability in accordance with the law.

8. Changes and Termination

  1. We may revise this agreement from time to time. Revisions will be published through the app or the official website with the updated date marked; your continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the revisions;
  2. If you violate this agreement or laws and regulations, we have the right to suspend or terminate the services provided to you.

9. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This agreement is governed by the laws of mainland China. Disputes arising from this agreement shall be resolved through friendly negotiation; if negotiation fails, either party may bring a lawsuit before a competent people's court.

Nothing in this agreement excludes or limits any mandatory consumer protection rights that you have under the laws of your country or region of residence and that cannot be waived by agreement.
